Artwork and artists of Venetian Plaster
Outside Italy, stuccowork found lovers during romanic age, specially in Germany (Halberstadt).
After a period of poor luck, stuccowork came back to highest heat during Italian Renaissance; used at first by greatest Florence art masters (Antonio Rossellino, Iacopo della Quercia, Lorenzo Viberti), who by the way created a special kind of niche shaped hanging altar, of such an architectonic shop fit to contain holy pictures, mainly painted and gold plated, wide spreaded also in the other regions. Moreover, taste for decorations comes alongside with the Fresco, reaching, specially in 1500, richest and refined charming looks.
Also other artists, who become specialized in it, used stucco works, decorating greatest italian art history monuments such as Vatican Loggia, Villa Madama, Farnesina, Spada Palace, Pope Julio Villa and Mattei Palace in Rome; outside Roma, almost in competition the biggest centers and highclass courts would decorate with more and more rich stucco works their homes. Examples to mention are Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Marciana Library, Palazzo Ducale (golden stair) in Venice, Imperial Palace in Genova, Schifanoia Palace in Ferrara, Palazzo Ducale and Palazzo Tea in Mantova.
Renaissance stuccowork art Masters were the starters Pierin del Vaga and Giovanni from Udine (Raffaello lodges and Royal hall in Vaticano), their followers Daniele from Volterra, Giulio Romano, Alessandro Vittoria in Venice, Lucio Romano in Genova, together with Pierin del Vaga and M. Montorsoli, M. Sparzo and A. da Carona.
