Venetian Plaster: craft made art

Venetian stuccowork: craft made art

We can find witnesses of ancient stucco also in the Cretan people (3000 B.C.). It is a plaster made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates melted with slaked lime with which they realized relieves then painted with bright colors.

Stucco usage come from East to West: we find it in Greeks, Persians, Etrurians and, of course, Romans.

Venetian stuccowork art was always been a 'craft made art', handed on from father to son trough teaching and practice during building yards. So there has never been a real documentation about it; Venetian stuccowork evolved along the time and has been handed on along the progress of building yard techniques.

Probably between all the arts, Venetian stuccowork is the one that mostly sticks to the Greek word 'tèchne' (technique) original concept.
